THE DESIGN
EDGAR (I NOTHING AM) IS A devised theatrical work THAT EXPLORES THE INNER WORKING MIND OF EDGAR ALLAN POE, WHO VENTURES ACROSS HIS 'BEAUTIFUL DARK, TWISTED FANTASY' WORLD for HIS ULTIMATE WORK (AND WEIRDLY ENOUGH, HIS FICTIONAL DEAD LOVE), ANNABELLE LEE. HE TRAVERSES THIS WORLD WITH THE RAVEN'S GUIDANCE AND EXPERIENCES LIFE-LIKE MANIFESTATIONS OF FAIRYLANDS, MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, THE OVAL PORTRAIT AND THE UNCANNY VALLEY, ALL STORIES THAT WERE OF HIS OWN MAKING WHICH HAVE TAKEN lives of their own.
THE SOUND DESIGN EMPHASIZES THE ETHEREAL MOTION OF TIME, AND THEREFORE Was PRIMARILY COMPRISED OF AN OVERLAIN TICKING OR CHIMING GRANDFATHER CLOCK. ADDITIONALLY, THE COMPOSITIONS WERE CRITICAL FOR THE MOVEMENT SECTIONS, AS DANCE WAS AT THE VERY FOUNDATION OF THEM ALL. SCORING ELEMENTS WERE LAYERED WITH ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTS AND SYNTHETIC PADS, CREATING A LUSH, EERIE ATMOSPHERE IN THE WORLD OF POE.

Annabell LeeEDGAR IN HIS STUDY, BEGINNING HIS SEARCH FOR A MEMORY OF ANNABELL LEE, CONTEMPLATING THE JOURNEY. The Main theme is embedded with the MOtif of the glockenspiel and some bells, all speaking to the nuance of time.

The Fairylands |
The fairylands is a checkpoint for Edgar and raven until encountering the fairy queen herself and almost falling victim to the tempting allure of her charms. Music makes effective use of the harp and choral voices for the 'magical' allure followed by powerful strings and large drums that drive the action that follows. This piece tracks the enchanting nature of the encounter but also the potentially life threatening nature of Edgar's creations.

The Oval PortraitUPON escaping THE allure of the Fairy Queen in the FAIRYLANDS, EDGAR TELLS RAven THE STORY OF THE OVAL PORTRAIT. THIS PIECE OF MUSIC WAS AN UNDERSCORE WITH AMBIENT PIANO THAT PLAYS SPARSELY AS THE STORY OF THE DEAD BRIDE WAS TOLD.
