The Intent
Living the Dream is a work that merges the arts of dance and movement with stage combat, its choreography embracing the concept of "artistic violence."
Composer's Note
When traveling in a dream, there are no limits to the odds of encountering different anomalies of all types. Living the Dream inspired many faces of musical ideas. The idea of the capacity to dream often correlates with the ability to hope, and thus incorporating music of different genres, spanning from cinematic orchestral, tango, atmospheric, all the way to Lo-Fi music scoring. The music, in relation to the choreography encapsulates the intensity of incredible action, using several sequences of percussion, and strong bow melodies of orchestral strings. In using these instruments for contrasting genres, I found that they have a very special “voice” in a story told by artistic violence. Therefore, I wanted the music to travel just as the Dreamer experiences his dreams and faces the many obstacles that he encounters by allowing the themes of the music to develop from the perspectives of triumph, pain, struggle, and hope, utilizing inspired styles that could be seen in 'kung-fu flicks.'
